Points of View Statement

Proposal PROJECT THEME: Fast fashion and its links to wealth   POINT OF VIEW 1: someone with a very high income that might even own a fast fashion company and looking into how they might prioritize money over human and environmental ethics POINT OF VIEW 2: someone with a more middle income who has the time and money to be able to source vintage and second-hand clothing which I think falls into the age bracket of a teenager to a young adult. I think there is also a divide between people my age that do that but then also people that do shop at fast fashion places and frequently doing so, so it creates throw away culture and has big environmental impacts POINT OF VIEW 3: someone who is of a lower income who possibly can’t afford, doesn’t have the time or doesn’t have much access to charity shops and thrift stores so resorts to fast fashion as it’s the only way to get clothing. I think its also important to get across that someone who can’t afford or doesn’t have enough tim...

Points of View To further develop my project, I wanted to get into researching more about the condition and  sketch out more ideas. I think that facts and statistics are a great way of making an impactful point and to grab someone's interest so I wanted to look at a few of those too.  After a talk by artist Beth Suzanna, I got inspired to try out paper collage. I loved working with the bright shades and the blocks of colour gave a great simplistic look which I think is reminiscent of my usual work. I definitely want to develop this way of working and to explore it further. To start thinking about my three points of view, I wanted to look directly to other peoples experiences of vaginismus. I want to have my three points of view as being three characters who would be telling their story and journey to the viewer. To get a wider perspective, I created a short questionnaire which I contacted people to be able to take part in. Some of the responses to...

Vaginismus Vaginismus is an automatic and unconscious tightening of the vaginal muscles when penetrated which makes any kind of penetration like using a tampon or sex, extremely painful or impossible. I wanted to do a project about education and acceptance of vaginismus as many people feel scared of it and may think of it as their fault. I think that if there is something that can educate people more about it and that the condition can improve, people could feel much better about it earlier. I want to create artwork that is informative and encouraging; so bright and positive, I want it to be a safe space for people to learn and feel better about themselves. For the points of view, I thought that I could talk to people about their experiences with the condition and how they are improving or are learning that it is okay to have. I thought I could also do pieces about causes, treatments and about the feelings that you might feel and how to overcome them. From my work, I want people to fee...

Artist 4 Artist Response Work

Response to Lubaina Himid's Work For my response piece to Lubaina Himid's work, I wanted to take my work out of paper or a screen like I would usually do, and create a 3D or sculptural piece. I really like how Himid uses instillations as a way of portraying the messages in her work and that is something I wanted to bring into my response work. Whilst thinking of how I could bring my work into a 3D form, I found some food jars that I was going to throw out but thought they could be interesting to draw on. I was also inspired to create a piece that explored history and hopefully discover interesting stories that I haven't heard of before like Himid does. Taking something that I am interested in, 60s culture, I wanted to explore this time within the piece.  One of the iconic places from the 60s was Carnaby Street which was an epicentre for the youth of the time of culture, fashion and music. Visually for me, I wanted to take the bright and bold colours and pa...
